Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to inspire students. To help them realize that regardless of the obstacles they may face, there is always a way to success, whether that means climbing mountains, going around them, or completely destroying them, there is nothing that can keep them from achieving their dreams. I want to be the rock that keeps them grounded, while they spread their wings and soar. I want to make learning fun, and show them that there is nothing they can’t achieve.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience happened while I was in school, and working as a paraprofessional. I was working with a special needs student who didn’t know me well, and who struggled with behavior. The student did not want to work, and climbed under the table refusing to come out. So, I used blankets and made the table into a fort and climbed under the table with him. This small act helped me make a connection with him, and he completed all his work with me in our own little table fort!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would turn my classroom into what I’ve always dreamed it would be. I would have truly flexible seating, an amazing and inclusive classroom library, sensory tools for my students, and extra snacks always available for the kids who just need a bit more. I would also purchase extra books to gift to my students to help them grow their own libraries at home and ensure they all had fun and exciting books to read at home.
