Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher initially thinking it would be an easy job with summers off, but I quickly realized it was much more than that. I enjoyed school myself, and I wanted to stay involved in that environment. As an avid learner, teaching felt like a natural fit. It took a few years to truly find my rhythm, but with each class, I learned and grew right alongside my students. Every year was a new journey, and students brought a fresh perspective that challenged me in the best way.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I don’t have one specific memory that stands out, but I’ve always treasured moments when I’ve connected with students who initially seemed disengaged. The challenge of reaching someone who doesn’t seem to care about school is rewarding in itself. Watching that “lightbulb” moment when a student grasps a new concept or skill is unforgettable. I’ll always remember the times when I saw a student work through a problem and find genuine joy in learning. Those moments brought me great joy.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Unfortunately, my lifelong career is coming to an unexpected end due to the sudden loss of my vision. I’m unable to finish the 2024-2025 school year, and this has had a significant financial impact on me. Winning the $25,000 would provide essential relief, helping my wife cover bills, pay off medical debt, and keep up with life while I await disability benefits. I’ve always shared my love of learning, and now I’ll be learning a new way to navigate life. The $25,000 would be incredibly helpful.
