Teaching gives me the chance to share that excitement and help kids discover their own artistic voices. Whether it’s through puppets, paint, or whatever wild materials we can get our hands on, I want my students to feel free to experiment and create without limits. For me, being an art teacher isn’t just about teaching skills—it’s about encouraging curiosity, self-expression, and the confidence to see the world differently.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Teaching Gelli monotype printing to my 9-12th graders was pure magic. They dove in with curiosity, layering textures and colors in ways I hadn’t even imagined. Watching their excitement as they pulled each unique print was incredible. They experimented fearlessly, pushing the technique beyond my expectations. By the end, the room was filled with stunning, one-of-a-kind prints—and that spark of creative discovery made it an unforgettable experience.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I’d travel the world to explore art—visiting museums, galleries, and street art scenes for inspiration. From the Louvre to Japan’s contemporary art spaces, I’d soak in new ideas, take workshops, and connect with artists. The funds could also support new art supplies, classroom resources, or even a student field trip, bringing that inspiration back to my teaching and sparking fresh creativity in my students.
