Tell us why you became a teacher

As a young child, I’ve had high hopes and dreams of becoming an educator with great intentions of empowering and inspiring young minds. My father, a high school Math teacher, and my grandmother, an early childhood educator ignited my educational fire. Watching their interactions and relationships with their students, staff, colleagues, and parents was even more inspiring. Furthering my desire to educate and positively impact the lives of students, families, and colleagues.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments as an educator was when my students were featured on the local news. They had written an original song to honor African American leaders of the past who paved the way for their opportunities today. Seeing their creativity and voices celebrated while spotlighting such an important legacy was an unforgettable experience.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded the $25,000, I would use the funds to create learning opportunities for my students that extend beyond the classroom. This would include developing programs that promote cultural heritage, fostering creativity through the arts, and providing access to resources and experiences that inspire academic and personal growth. My goal is to empower my students to dream big and recognize their potential to make a lasting impact in their communities.
