Tell us why you became a teacher

I became an educator because of the impact my 5th and 6th grade teachers had on me. As a struggling learner, their creativity and dedication made learning enjoyable and accessible. They incorporated hands-on activities and group work that made lessons engaging and helped me grasp concepts. Their encouragement and belief in my potential inspired me to give others the same support and excitement for learning, and to make a positive difference in students’ lives, just as they did for me.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

In Florida I had a student who often struggled both behaviorally and academically. He'd become easily frustrated and disruptive when tasks seemed difficult. For 3 years, I worked with him on emotional regulation, offering short breaks and positive reinforcement. Gradually, he learned to manage his frustration and focus more. Over time, his academic performance improved, and they became a positive influence in the community. It was incredible to see how much growth he displayed.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would enhance my students' educational experiences by funding field trips to enrich their learning. I’d provide more resources, such as books, supplies, and technology, to support my low-income students and ensure they have the tools needed to succeed. Additionally, I’d expand our science programs by purchasing lab equipment, hands-on materials, and guest speakers to inspire and engage students in science and their learning, helping them develop essential skills for the future.
