Michael Reed

I love teaching because of the influence I have on kids. I can inspire and uplift students to dream bigger than they ever imagined.

Tell us why you became a teacher

Bill Nye was the reason I became a teacher! I always told my wife that if I can inspire children the way that Bill inspired me, I could make a real difference. My passion has always been working with children and I found my home in the classroom!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moment as a teacher was when I was still teaching middle school science. I was trying to find a way to get my classes excited about our review for upcoming state testing. I decided to have a grade level lip sync battle on each of our content area songs in science. The students had to dress up and choreograph their routines for one week. We preformed in front of two grade levels in the cafeteria and it was EPIC! I even made a paper mache microphone trophy for the winners!

What would you do with the $25,000?

The first thing I would do is pay off my graduate school loans! After my loans, I would use the remainder of the money to put a down payment on a studio for my wife’s new photography business. This would quickly eat up all of the $25,000, but it would be well worth it in the long term!
