My students at the juvenile detention center are often forgotten by society. Yet, seeing them find their path in education is worthwhile.

My father was my fifth grade teacher. I loved how he made learning fun and hope to one day do the same.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceWhen the detention center agreed to let us work with the garden area that had been neglected for over 10 years, the students were interested in what we were going to embark on. When we grew basil, lettuce, tomatoes, and bell peppers, the students were thrilled to see their growth, picking them, and then eating their hard work was the most rewarding. They even wanted to try chili peppers and onions and make salsa to sell to the guards.
What would you do with the $25,000?The detention center would get a new library and hydroponics system (that includes goldfish) for our students who need hands on learning.
