Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher at first because I watched and listened how my mother was able to help most children love the “ Art of Learning”. I wanted to help my little corner of the world be a better place; by believing in their abilities, always being willing to try, and trying new things.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One year I had a young man who was very smart but underproducing in class (as he had for several years). After meeting with parents who were frustrated also. I put him on an online upper grade program that I could track as he progressed. He finished out the year surpassing all of the math goals we had for him! About 3 years later I ran into the mom at a school function and she told me that ever since my classroom her son had just taken off in school especially math.

What would you do with the $25,000?

For the large library in my room, purchase a scanner, codes, and a program to check in and check out books to students so I don’t keep losing books. For the entire 5 th grade purchase many different seating options for classrooms. Plus current science curriculum aides, digital and print. Set up and stock a “behavior based” school store for the whole school. Give some to the local animal shelter for supplies. Use some on this wonderful vacation and being honest here, paying some bills!
