Tell us why you became a teacher

Like many teachers, I was inspired to become a teacher due to the amazing teachers that I had growing up. My teachers were my family. They looked out for me when my own parents did not. They helped me reach my goals and inspired me everyday. I became a teacher to be that person for the kids in my community. The person who inspires kids to dream big, ask questions, and stay curious. I have never wanted any other career nor would I change careers. I am truly living my dream, inspiring kids daily.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I am lucky to have had many memorable experiences, but my favorite memory has to be when I was teaching Middle School science. I love to make learning engaging. I changed the lyrics to a popular song to be about volcanoes. Later, at the school dance, my students requested the DJ to play that song. The next thing I knew, all of my students were on the dance floor singing my lyrics to volcanoes in front of their peers. Hundreds of kids all engaged and excited to share the magic of science!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would be able to help my own children afford education in their future. It's important to me that my kids are able to have opportunities to grow and question. The best way to achieve those opportunities would be through through further education in college and experience in the world. That money would allow me to give back to my own children, who are currently 8 and 9 years old and show them the world and what curiosities it has to offer.
