Tell us why you became a teacher

I think that I became a teacher because I had a brother with a disability. Growing up, I realized that he had many abilities as long as he was given enough time to learn. For that reason, I became interested in becoming a special education, teacher and helping students with disabilities.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

It is difficult to choose just one memorable teaching experience. There have been so many amazing experiences during my 30+ years of teaching! One extremely memorabe time was when I had my students in third grade do research about famous Americans. There was a student who did not want to have to get up and say a speech because she was extremely shy. However, I told her that she could practice with me. She practiced with me and overcame her fear. The students did a great job on stage!

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, I would probably buy more class book sets on my students' reading levels. I work with struggling readers who need to practice reading often. I would also want to go on a wonderful vacation. I might even put some of it toward a down payment on a new house or for Retirement.
