Tell us why you became a teacher

From elementary to graduate school, I've been fortunate to have had many amazing teachers who have supported me and fostered my growth through curical times of development. Knowing the impact this has made for me, I want to provide that for my students. These children need more than subject material. They need encouragement, guidance, to be challenged, a listening ear and chances to fail with support to recover. It takes patience and love to be a teacher, if you have that gift you must use it

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The greatest thing about teaching is that almost every day is memorable. It doesn't take a big event to leave a lasting imprint on your heart. The quiet kid that opens up to share something with you, the kid who normally struggles in class but finally gets it, the kid who is excited to tell you about something important to them, or the past student who is working a job or volunteering in a field of study you inspired. It is all memorable!!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would travel to gain personal experiences that I could share with my students regarding environmental science and marine science. I would volunteer my time and money to organizations that support and work with underprivileged children. Having access to education is not a given, but rather a privledge. I would love to help in the best way I can
