Learn MoreWhen I first learned that kids who attend quality early childhood programs are more likely to thrive long-term, I knew this was the work I wanted to do. Teaching young children is both challenging and deeply rewarding—it’s a chance to support their growth in every way.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne bright kiddo started the year sneaking toys home in his pockets. His parents returned them like loyal toy librarians. After several chats—including a heart-to-heart about not taking friends’ treasures—he came smiling to me at closing: “Ms. Burmester, look! No school toys!” My heart swelled. Progress! Then he added, “Yeah, these pants don’t have pockets.” I laughed and thought: teaching means growing together, one pocket-sized lesson at a time.
What would you do with the $25,000?First two priorities would be donating to the school’s scholarship fund and helping to purchase adult-sized chairs and a table for our preschool staff. Right now, all of our meetings take place in the tiny chairs meant for young children — it’s quite a sight! I would love to help create a more comfortable and supportive space for my amazing coworkers, who pour their hearts into their work every single day.
