Tell us why you became a teacher

I always fought against being a teacher. I went into college as a business major and quickly realized its not what I wanted to do. My mom encouraged me and told me that I would love teaching because I am from a large family and have always worked well with children. When I struggled to decide what major to switch to I decided to give teaching a try. I watched my sister struggle with dyslexia her whole life. That is what inspired me to teach first grade and focus on reading.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable experience that I've had so far as a teacher is when I completed my first lesson during student teaching. I had done so many mock lessons with classmates and professors, but I never did one with students. At the time, I worked at the Boys and Girls Club helping with homework, so I had plenty of practice. However, I never had the curriculum in front of me and created my own lesson for students. I did a lesson on money where each student got to "order" something and pay.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I am getting married to my high school sweetheart this year. We have been dating since sophomore year of high school. After college, we both moved back to our hometown to work. We graduated in May of 2023 and got engaged this past summer. This money would help us grow our own roots in our hometown and help take some of the financial burden of planning a wedding.
