Tell us why you became a teacher

Through life’s journey, teaching found me as I pondered my calling to help as many people as possible. It allows me to inspire, guide, and empower students, shaping their futures while contributing to a better society. Here, I found my purpose fostering a community of learners, scholars, and inquiring minds; creating meaningful change every day.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There are so many memorable moments in teaching—from seeing a SPED student grow 17 points to watching refugees speak in full sentences. But one that stands out the most is when a student, who had never passed a standardized test before, finally passed in my class. She looked me in the eyes and said, “I am more than my dyslexia.” That moment reminded me of the power of perseverance, belief, and the impact a teacher can have in helping students see their true potential.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would love to create a podcast station for our literary analysis podcasts, giving students a platform to share their insights and deepen their understanding. Additionally, a VR station would allow them to be transported into the books they read, immersing them in different worlds and perspectives. They could even code their own environments, bringing literature to life in an interactive way that fosters creativity and critical thinking.
