From the time I was in school I wanted to be a teacher. I would set up a classroom in my basement and save all of my school work to play “school” with. I of course was the teacher and my brother was my student. I always had a love for children and enjoyed being a role model for them. I had many babysitting and camp counselor jobs growing up. I chose this career to be able to make a difference in my students’ lives, to teach them to always believe in themselves and be their biggest cheerleader.

It’s hard to choose one memory, but the moments that mean the most are when students from prior years reach out to tell you what a great teacher you were. Whether it’s a card they mail you, a picture they drew for you, a Valentine, a handmade Christmas gift or just coming to visit every morning for a hug. Those things may seem little but they mean so much knowing that child still thinks of you years later when you aren’t their teacher anymore. That’s when I know I’ve really made an impact.

I would love to be able to buy some good quality decodable books for my classroom, a new rug for gathering for class meetings, an interactive whiteboard, sensory mats/toys, indoor movement break equipment and a storage solution for my student closet space. There are some teacher trainings I’ve also had my eye on but haven’t been able to afford such as the heart centered teaching program and the kindergarten connection club. I’d also love to spend some on home improvement projects and a vacation!
