Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because my 5th grade teacher had such a big impact on me. She was a teacher who made me feel confident, proud of myself, believed in every student, and taught in a way that made me love learning. I remember how she stood by my side and helped me get through a presentation when I was too nervous to do it by myself. She made learning so fun and creative, that I wanted to do exactly what she did when I grew up.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was last year. My class experienced some challenges with behaviors, which made it difficult to concentrate and learn. My students practiced strategies and skills daily to help them focus when the challenges arose. I was so proud of my students for persevering during a tough year. My former students still said they had the best year last year. They still come to my classroom this year to say hi and give me a hug daily. It makes my heart so happy!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would love to put money down and buy my first house. I have always had to live with roommates to make ends meet or work a second job after teaching, because money is tight. I would love this opportunity to foresee my future goals in owning my own home and making that next step for my future.
