Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I was extremely passionate about the potential to change the lives of children. To shape future generations, despite what my family and friends told me. I have always wanted to work with children. Providing a loving, safe and nurturing environment for them to learn and be themselves has always been my greatest accomplishment.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have had so many AMAZING experiences that in truth it is impossible to pick just one. I've had students call me "mom". I've had students that no one expected to be successful on a state test not only pass but crush it! I've had students who started the year off "hating" math and mid year fell in love with math. I've had students who have cried when they left and cried when I left. I've gone to football games, soccer games, award ceremonies and everything in between. I love it all!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the money to help pay off my student loans and some other debts I have. However I would also use the money to help my family become more independently sustainable. We are starting a garden and would love to expand with some chickens. I also told my students we would have a big celebration! Of course there are things like home repairs but I would like to use this as an opportunity to not only better our lives but also our community.
