I have the privilege of working with so many amazing kids over the years that bring me joy and inspiration—no room to list them all!
Thank you for supporting Matthew Henry in this year's competition. Your donations and participation will benefit The Planetary Society in their mission to advance space exploration, inspire discovery, and empower the next generation of innovators.
I began teaching later, in my early 30s, when I felt more adult, more wise, like I had something to say and some space between myself and the students I would be working with. Simply put, I was raised to be a good human being and it’s important that, along with the skills I help students develop, I teach critical thinking, compassion and empathy for others. I love that every day is different and that I truly cannot predict where my impact ends. I love being part of my community in this role.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceA student harmed themselves and ultimately passed away. I had to lead that class through grief twice (the initial harm and the passing of the student). I will never forget their tears, their love for the student and each other or the valuable lesson I learned that ultimately love is what matters most in a classroom.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would like to establish a scholarship for a deserving graduate. The entire amount. I am fine financially—others deserve it more.
