Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher at 29 after years in finance. I wanted more meaning. I wanted a deeper impact where it mattered. I was a foster child as a teen and neglected as a kid. I wanted to learn how to relate to children and convey magic in learning about the world. I love when they raise questions I haven’t thought of yet. They inspire me to be better.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I had a child elope once from my science class on the first day of school. He ran to the basement and hid and I crawled into the boiler room with him. We figured out he had dyslexia that year together. Supporting his curiosity and seeing him jump into science throughout the year was such a

What would you do with the $25,000?

I’d fund the community closet at our high school for a year and our wetland restoration project.
