Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to empower students with the knowledge of how to invest in themselves by learning. I was raised on a farm and was afforded the opportunity to observe and participate in life’s daily difficulties, often with getting to problem solving along the way. I have been blessed with a career that has let me see the struggles of generations in pursuit of happiness. They will pass on the best humanity has to offer because I instill in them the desire to overcome!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There were the times when students had a shift in their mindset to persevere. All knowledge becomes a voice that pushes students to look within themselves and find their past becomes just a scar to motivate them to be the expert. Curious to be NASA worthy, save that endangered butterfly, make that film headed to the moon, code that sensor to not only survive but thrive in the journey. My favorite moments have always been their dreams of the creative possibilities, and discoveries in their eyes.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Because it would be an honor to help design a pollinator garden, raised beds, a hiking trail, Monarch way station, greenhouse, and water feature for outdoor learning. Excited to provide tools like coding, drones, data sensors, trail cameras, temperature probes, albedo sensors, barometric pressure tools, a telescope, and microscopes for kids to observe and solve community issues. I hope to inspire creativity life long learning and big dreams , if chosen.
