Tell us why you became a teacher

I spent three summers in college working at a youth camp called Passport, Inc. During my time serving at this camp, I fell in love with working with young people, especially helping them find their worth and purpose. I began work on my Master's Degree in 2005, and during this program of study, my passion for teaching and learning was ignited even further. I want to meet students' academic and social-emotional needs daily through creativity and connection. I am also a lifelong learner!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

During my first teaching placement, I had the privilege of directing the school's theatre program with the help of the chorus teacher and other teacher leaders. The first time we put on a big production, Beauty and the Beast, I was inspired and motivated by a student cast that showed so much heart and passion for their craft. This experience was so memorable because of the way it brought our whole community together as the students performed for the public and the elementary schools.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would pay for continuing education and complete an Educational Doctorate Degree to hone my craft as an educator even more. I am currently enrolled in a program of study, and winning this prize would help tremendously to cover the cost.
