Learn MoreI had a few really amazing teachers - Wanda Edwards (3rd), BJ Cone (4th), Jennifer Beaven (HS)- that were patient when I struggled. They found new ways to help me understand difficult concepts. They made me feel like I could do most anything especially with reading and running. I put a little piece of each of them in my teaching style.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI had all 75 of my students participate in an Upcycled Runway Show at a local gallery. They upcycled a pair of shoes, shirts, fused plastic shopping bags together to make outfits and made clothing out of random materials like plastic bottles, postcards and paper bags. Students sold art, raising $300 for our program. Every student showed up to rehearsal and the show! They supported each other, alumni helped with hair and make up. Their clothing was innovated and showed their personalities.
What would you do with the $25,000?I work at an urban art school. I would like to start a scholarship fund for arts related experiences. I strongly believe each grade level should have a specific type of experience, for example Broadway musical, professional dance performance, orchestra/band, a play and many museums. I would also like to start a welcome bag for students that includes a field trip t-shirt, binder, paper, pencils, etc. People always helped my family growing up, paying it forward is important to me.
