Tell us why you became a teacher

Becoming a musician from an early age, I knew that I wanted to foster a passion for music into the next generation. I work at a Title 1 High School where many of our students don't have the opportunity to take private lessons, attend workshops, etc. due to life circumstances. It is my privilege to work with these students to make these things happen for them.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

In the moments before our concert, I get to watch my students use all of their hard work, team work, and pure adrenaline to run music an hour before we perform. It is some of the most exciting music I've ever had the honor of being part of. My students finally get to see what they are truly capable of.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were selected for this honor, I would use $10,000 of this award to go toward new choir risers, music, and jackets with our choir logo. I would also set aside $2,000 in scholarships for our students pursuing a career in music and/or education. With the remainder of the money, I would put it toward my student loans. Lord knows every little bit helps!
