Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to help students like me who struggled with learning. Being on an IEP growing up allows to connect with my students on a more deeper level. To show them that you can succeed having a learning disability no matter what anyone says.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

In my 2nd year of teaching 6th grade, I had a student who would not do anything for any teacher. It was like pulling teeth. He refused to read independently or out loud. Until I had the brilliant idea to have him read to our schools therapy dog. I chose the book bad guys for him. I used it as a break for him from class. At first he was reluctant but over a course of weeks he was starting to read more and more. He loved the books so much came back asking for the next book.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use a portion of the $25,000 towards books and items in my classroom. The other portion I would use towards earning my masters degree. I haven’t quite decided on what it would be in. Just something in education. I would also use a little amount to start a college fund for my daughter and future children.
