I have always wanted to inspire students to find their fire, their passion to live a life of constant learning. When teaching my students with IEPs, the joy I see in the child's eyes when they are able to reach their goal is beyond description. They learn that if they continue practicing, if they continue pushing themselves, they can reach any goal they create for themselves, whether in school or daily life. They develop a routine to reach the finish line. A spark...keeping their fire alive.

One of my 6th graders didn't know how to count past 14. He'd confuse 15 and 16 when counting. We worked every day on his counting and he'd get so upset with himself. At the end of the year, he was able to count and write to 100. He was so proud to realize that he can grow, he can do more, he can. The next year, he was able to add/subtract double digits with borrowing/carrying over. At graduation, he reflected on how much he grew academically, and gave me a hug before his farewell to high-school.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use it for the self-contained cluster program (3 classes, from K-8th) for purchase of the much needed resources to accommodate our students academic and sensory needs in the classroom. I would also get sports equipment for the Special Olympics for all of my athletes so they can prepare for the games! I would help my mom fix up her house. She has been working harder than anyone I know to finally have the home she deserves. I would also save some for my wife and I to purchase our own home.
