I was an older new teacher. I had traveled and worked in many different fields. I wanted to make a difference with my career.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceEach student is a memory. I loved each class and subject but the most memorable was one of my Title 1 math classes, full of repeaters and strugglers. Half of the class had a record and the other half were quiet misfits. By the end of the semester, they were sitting together and working together to “figure things out” in our class. They all passed the Algebra 1 state test. It was literally ke building a community and watching them grow in their own ways.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would revamp our playground to add options for our disabled students. A pathway for any who come in wheelchairs and swings they could use. More tetherball poles and a new covered court for our concrete pad. I am now a special educator and know how important the mind/body connection is for academics and social health.
