Tell us why you became a teacher

Both of my parents were teachers so I grew up around it. Ever since I was little I loved playing school and helping my dad grade papers. As I got older I knew I wanted to work with young children. I started babysitting at 13 and that was when I knew that’s what I wanted to do. I love watching children grow and developing and being able to help families.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Recently I began teaching young adults. They’re individuals that have barriers and I help them through the process of getting their CDA. One of the girls I was working with told me how I felt like more of a mom to her than her own mother. When she started she was struggling and with my help and support she received a job that enabled her to get a new car and ability to afford things she needed.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Because I have only ever made enough to survive I have a lot of home repairs that need completed. I’ve lived in my house for 22 years and would like to get things fixed and redo my basement for my special needs daughter that lives with me.
