Tell us why you became a teacher

I had so many pivotal teachers in my life. My most influential teacher was my 4th grade teacher. She made learning so fun! I wanted to impact students like she did. A great teacher changes lives! I love people and what better way to help our society than being a teacher! I love seeing those “aha” moments! Not only am I making a difference in my students lives, but they are making a difference in my life!!! PS I’m a 4th grade teacher! Talk about full circle!!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My second year of teaching, I had a selective mute student in my class. I was bound and determined to help her speak in class. Her peers loved her, she was so sweet! I tried everything to entice her to speak. I celebrated her small ways that she communicated , I gave a supportive learning environment, I even bribed her! lol I never got her to talk, but she sent me a video over the summer telling me I was her favorite teacher. Talk about a win!!!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I’m sure everyone says I’m going to give back to the community. While I’m definitely going to take my entire school on a field trip (I’ll let each grade level decide what they want to do, I’ll take our 4th graders roller skating!), I want to give my own children some money to help with their education. I’m also going to help pay off our house!
