Lisa Phillips

I'd say that this being my 45th year in teaching sums it all up. When I do retire, it is going to be hard to walk away.

Tell us why you became a teacher

As a poor child growing up,I was constantly made fun of in school. My best plan of defense was to smile but cry on the inside. As I continued through high school teachers joined in with the taunting. It was then I decided to try and beat the odds and get into college.I worked hard to save money, took out loans got a pell grant.I wanted to prevent this from happening to another child. In education I could build relationships, guide students, love those I teach and show them another way to beat the odds

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

After 45 years there are so many memorable experiences. With that being said the most memorable teaching experience(s) was to see the outcome of my students who thought they would never be where they are today.Students of all ages constantly come back to see me to say thank you! Each year at graduation time a group of previous students will come back to visit and say,THANK YOU."We wish you could have taught us throughout school. We would have learned more because you never gave up on any of us."❤️

What would you do with the $25,000?

I could say I would spend it on a luxury cruise but that would be a little far fetched, but nice. However, there are more important aspects in life. I would honestly use the money to pay off my home and help my son.I have always been one to help others in need.I have provided clothing, school supplies, toiletries etc to the children I teach each year.I have always put my students first.Especially those in special need. Now I need to help not just myself, but my son. He is my top priority.
