Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to pay it forward as a way to thank all the teachers who helped me in school. I was an at-risk student due to poverty and there were many teachers who made sure I was able to stay in school and be successful.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Probably it was working with a boy who was on the spectrum, fairly non-verbal and not potty trained. School was scary for him. But within just a few months he was potty-trained, able to function without a one-on-one support person and was happy to be at school. That was a big win!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would donate the money to my school for some much-needed physical repairs that have been long- neglected. We need our blacktop resurfaced and painted and some new equipment for students to use.
