My favorite part of teaching is allowing students to see themselves as capable of doing hard things; the lightbulb moment. Its so rewarding!

I knew I always wanted to be a teacher from a young age. I always looked up to my teachers and often would play “school.” I had a fantastic mentor in high school, who saw my passion in teaching others as I was a cadet teacher for students with special needs. She really pushed me to follow my dream of teaching.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceThere’s so many to choose from. One that stands out is when a previous student who was a foster student came to me with the biggest smile excited to tell me she is getting adopted. I felt like I was part of her story with her and we worked through a lot of her traumas together. I wrote a letter for the foster parents to better their chances of being able to adopt her since they were going above and beyond to support the child. It’s those meaningful stories that stick with me forever.
What would you do with the $25,000?With some of the money I’d really like to start a closet at our school with a variety of supplies that students can grab if in need. Including hygiene, hair products, food/snacks, school supplies, etc. I tend to always put others first, but at this point in my life extra savings would make a huge difference. I had to kinda start life all over recently and I’m currently skimming by making rent, paying student loans, and living expenses. All while working a second job. (As many teachers do)
