Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher out of necessity because my father had just died and I need a steady job. Not knowing that I would fall in love with it, I have been inside the classroom for six years now. Children are our most precious resource and the lessons they teach us are invaluable. As teachers, it is our responsibility to nurture these young people and shepard them towards success in their endeavors but they are also our teachers. Let us learn from them as they learn from us.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience involves advocacy for the youngest among us, as teacher-work so often involves. I worked with a child who was struggling to learn to walk. As teachers we had great concerns about the physical development of this child. However, upon having this very difficult conversation with her grown-ups, they were very much in denial. After months of advocacy, we convinced the parents to seek physical therapy for this child. By the end of the school year, she was running

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would be able to move my mother closer to me. She is 74 and currently lives 2,500 miles away in Nevada and it has been my dream since my father's death that she should live closer to me so I can take care of her.
