Tell us why you became a teacher

I have always enjoyed and connected with kids. I started working with kids as a gymnastics coach, then as a camp counselor. I was accepted to graduate school with the plan of earning a degree in nutrition and dietetics. But after visiting the campus to schedule classes I had a terrible lit in my stomach telling me that was not the right path. The next day I reached out to another university and started on my path to earning my teaching my teaching license!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

So many moments have brought me to tears of joy. Within the last few weeks, a student joined our classroom family. He had struggled at his previous school and needed a fresh start. After a few days, a staff member asked him if he liked the new school. He replied, “I still don’t like school, but I’ve got the best teacher in the world!” It was a reminder from the universe as to why I am in this profession. I can reach kids and make a difference that could last a lifetime!

What would you do with the $25,000?

First off, I would be in shock! Ultimately, I would use the money to do some home improvements and travel with my family. My children are in middle and high school and I spend more time with other people’s kids than my own. I would love to use the money to reconnect with them and seek refreshment and rejuvenation for myself.
