There is nothing more rewarding than knowing I am helping to educate tomorrow’s leaders. I get to feel good about what I do everyday.

Tell us why you became a teacher

Becoming a teacher fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine. I remember sitting in my classes as a child thinking, “When I’m a teacher I will…” I wanted to do better by children like me. Diagnosed later in life as dyslexic, I struggled, and no one seemed to understand what I needed to succeed academically. I never wanted anyone else to suffer the way I did.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of the most memorable experiences for me occurred when my entire class of students and their families showed up after school to launch rockets we built, enjoy a sunset picnic, and look for constellations we studied when the stars came out. The joy and excitement my students and their families exhibited, along with the sense of accomplishment they felt, made all of the work worth it!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use some of the money to pay down debt, but I would use most of it to buy the needed materials to create more learning experiences that children hold onto for a lifetime.
