Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe in the power of storytelling, communication, and performance to transform lives. I love watching students grow into confident, expressive individuals, finding their voices on stage and in life. I push them to take risks, challenge themselves, and embrace success and failure. But beyond that, I find comfort knowing that for the hours they’re with me, they are safe, loved, and cared for—a place where they are seen, valued, and supported, no matter what.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

It’s easy to say my most memorable experiences are watching my kids advance to or win state, or sell out a musical, or earn laughter on stage, but that’s not it. It’s the little things. The uncontrollable laughter over something ridiculous, the teamwork that turns chaos into magic, the resilience we build together. It’s seeing a student finally believe in themselves, it watching them move audiences to tears, it’s sharing lunch together and learning about new cultures. The little things stick.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I win, I’d use the $25,000 to catch up on bills (because life is expensive), take my students to see live theatre (because they deserve it), and upgrade our theatre facility (because gaff tape can only fix so much). And if there’s anything left… I’d finally get the puppy I’ve been talking about to my students for years. At this point, they might riot if I don’t!
