Tell us why you became a teacher

When I was in 5th grade, I had this amazing teacher who inspired me, believed in me, made me laugh and build my love of learning. When I was about to have my oldest child, I said to myself. How can I tell her to follow her dreams, if I didn’t show that I had.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moment teaching was while I was student teaching believe it or not. I designed an Air & Weather lesson where each day a new student was a real weather person. For the next month, almost every day, my students were observed by different members of the school. At the beginning of the lesson I wondered if the students would remember everything for an end of unit exam. The kids blew me away with what they had learned!

What would you do with the $25,000?

Honestly, first I would invest in some supplies needed for my classroom! The school I work at asks for supplies to be donated, which some parents are not able to do. I would create a safe space in my room which I barely have now. Then, I would take my students on an exciting field trip to somewhere they haven’t been and could not afford. Once that is done, I would use some to invest my own children’s future. I would take them on a summer long trip visiting places across the United States.
