Learn MoreI have always had a heart for little kids. I wanted to have 10 of my own, but I didn’t get the blessing of being a mom. BUT, I was beyond blessed to be a teacher. Hundreds of preschoolers that I have been able to love and help mold. I became a special education teacher because my heart is not only for young children, but for those that need extra help. Autism is sometimes a thief of those moments that parents look forward to when having children, I want to help make those moments happen.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceThere are so many it’s hard to pick one… but I’ll pick a funny one. Autism is challenging. One of my boys was really struggling with behaviors and compliance. One of my classroom paras was “waiting him out” in the bathroom after an accident (refusing to get himself dressed) and all of a sudden, as I was teaching circle time, he came running out of the bathroom NAKED. He booked out of the classroom & into the hallway. My para came flying out after him with the most horrified look.
What would you do with the $25,000?I have probably, over my 25 years teaching so far, spent that much of my own money in my classroom. On supplies, food for low income students, toys and materials to further my students with Autism to engage and thrive. I would put it toward my retirement and enjoy my years after I finish teaching!!!! I love my teaching job, but I am looking forward to retiring!!!! I KNOW teaching preschoolers with special needs is what I was supposed to do with my life!!!! I am blessed!!!!
