Tell us why you became a teacher

Initially, I wanted to teach middle school English because I loved the relationship that my high school English teacher had with our class. I always felt compelled to be in a classroom helping other students achieve whatever was possible. The becoming of a teacher was initially due to the fact that the schedule was very helpful while I was running competitively. However, throughout the years, my love for the student learning environment has kept me in the classroom.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was during my 2nd year of teaching. I had to teach a lesson on the history of the ethnic backgrounds of my students. I was amazed at how much each student did not know about who they were or who their classmates were. This created conversations and relationships thatlasted throughout that year and beyond. They all learned a valuable lesson of acceptance.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won this $25,000, I would pay off some bills, of course. Then I believe that I owe it to whatever class I have to treat them to a Study Trip. I believe that I am learning just as they are and together, each year, I am able to show them that they are all worthy to bring something to the table too. We all have something to learn as well as something to teach.
