I believe that a strong public education system is essential for a thriving society. Every person in America depends upon our public schools, whether they realize it or not. I chose to become a teacher to be part of this powerful force. I started teaching in January 2023. I had been doing other kinds of work previously. The local news was continuously reporting teacher shortages. Though I hadn't taught school before, I was ready to learn the ropes and become part of the solution.

To me, the most significant element of teaching is the relationships formed in the classroom. I hold office hours every Tuesday and Thursday morning. Some students come with questions about homework, but most students come to hang out and talk about what's happening in their lives. I consider it a success that I have created a safe, welcoming space where students feel comfortable. I also like to make school fun, dancing on the cafeteria tables at lunchtime and teaching juggling at recess!

I would use the money to help my own four children further their education and pursue their dreams.
