Kim marsolek

The ability to make a child’s life better is priceless. I became a teacher to help kids and 36 years later I am still teaching Special Ed.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I tutored in an LD classroom in high school and being able to teach the ABC’s to a first grader that didn’t know that was amazing. I decided that working with special ed students was a chance to make their difficulties go away was what I needed to do.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Teaching my first student to read on their own was incredible. The pure joy they showed was amazing- they were finally just like everyone else. Watching one of LD students graduate from college and going on to be a teacher and thanking me helping make it happen was also incredibly satisfying.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use it to catch up on a few bills and help my daughter buy the things she wants for her own classroom.
