Tell us why you became a teacher

I became an elementary art teacher because I believe in the power of creativity to shape young minds. Art was always a source of self-expression and confidence for me, and I wanted to share that with children. By teaching art, I can inspire students to think critically, take risks, and express themselves freely. Art helps build self-esteem and opens up new ways of seeing the world. My goal is to create a supportive space where kids can explore their creativity and discover their potential.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience occurred when my students trusted the artistic process and ended up loving their artwork. Initially hesitant, they embraced the challenge of a mixed-media project. I encouraged them to focus on the process, not the perfection. As they experimented and made mistakes, their confidence grew. One student, once doubtful of her abilities, proudly shared her work, saying, “I didn’t think I could do this, but now I love it!” Watching them trust themselves was incred

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would update seating and purchase necessary art supplies for my two elementary classrooms, ensuring all students have access to quality materials. This would especially benefit my low-income schools, giving them opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have. Additionally, I would use part of the funds to take a trip, gathering real-world examples of global art practices.
