Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to help children learn. Reading is so important and it’s a skill that every person should have. Like I tell my Pre-K students, if you can all read, you can accomplish great things. A lot of times, the school system tends to encourage/motivate the stronger skilled children and the ones struggling get left behind or discouraged. I make sure all kids are rewarded in such a way that they feel loved, supported, and encouraged.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable teaching experience is when I got awarded with being the South Grant Teacher of the Year. I love my students. I loved hearing all of my current and past students tell me I deserved the award because of how much I helped them. I loved hearing all of my current and past students’ parents tell me how much I deserved the award because their child’s love for learning began in my class. It was a memorable experience, but I strive to teach this way, with or without an award.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would spend the majority of the money on my classroom. I would get new equipment and textbooks to better enhance the learning experience and environment in my classroom. I might also take a small trip with my loving family during the summer vacation.
