I became a Physics teacher because it’s the ultimate treasure hunt - one where the treats aren’t gold, but the very laws that govern the universe. These laws help young minds discern fundamental truths about the world, cutting to the very core of what it means to exist as a thinking, feeling being. I get to peer into what young people think makes the world go around. One does not know their purpose in life until they arrive at a moment where one is meant to be. I get to arrive at this everyday.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

A near blind student a few years ago asked why the Sun came up in the East and by gently guiding her hand across a globe (with the help of a flashlight) I watched her eyes widen as the light approached her fingers. She said “the Earth spins, bringing us into the sun’s light - it’s sunrise!”. In that moment I realized the power of making connections and patience in teaching beyond barriers. It is crucial to not see misconceptions as achievement gaps/hurdles but rather as opportunities for growth.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Any money won is great money. I would be able to use a portion of the $25,000 to help start a modest musical acoustic recording curriculum/course and if there is a little left, help pay for my two daughters educational needs.
