Tell us why you became a teacher

I’ve always loved working with children. When I was in elementary and middle school I was incredibly shy and insecure. However, I had some amazing teachers who saw my potential and made it their mission to help me see my worth. It became my mission to have that same impact on MY students. Watching their confidence blossom and trying things they used to be afraid of makes my heart burst! I have the ability daily to make a child love or hate school and it’s ALWAYS my goal to make them LOVE it!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Wow… I’m really not sure. I guess I will share the time my student, who has a rare genetic mutation almost died. To summarize- she went from potential pneumonia to being placed on a ventilator and medically induced coma within hours. Her mom was alone- so at 2:45am I made the decision to go to the hospital. Being there to read to her while she was in her coma and supporting her mom made me appreciate even more how special these little people I get to teach daily are.

What would you do with the $25,000?

First, I would pay off any debt. Then, use the money to take classes toward my recertification (our district does not pay for that). Finally, I know myself enough to know I will use anything left to buy things for my classroom. I cannot say what exactly, as I honestly don’t know. Each year I simply get things I feel will help each group of students. My mom loves to tell me if I saved the money I spent on school I could go on a really nice trip. 🤷🏻‍♀️
