Teaching is not just about curriculum, it’s about growing people. For me, it’s about helping them contribute to the world with care.

I dis not enjoy high school , and most of my teachers just talked and talked. My father, however, was a government teacher at a different high school. When I was young, I would watch him teach his classes on my days off, and he was so very interactive. He used music, projects, study hints, and so much more that brought his classes to life! He is the reason I became a teacher. His style and zest for the love of leaning inspired me to deviate from the norm.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI had a student once who was failing every class and needed a summer tutor. I volunteered. We spent as much time talking and working through the shambles of his life as we did curriculum. He came to see me years later and said if it weren’t for that summer he may not have been here today. All I did was care about him and his future.
What would you do with the $25,000?We need a theater at our school. I am also our small school’s theater director, and I want to use some of these funds for our program and the future of the program.
