Tell us why you became a teacher

Growing up, when my friends played “house”, I would play “school”. I loved to pretend to be a teacher. It was something I always knew I was destined to be. My goal was to become the teacher that students always remembered by the positive impact I made on them. My grandmother was a kindergarten teacher also and her students, years later would invite her to their wedding because she meant so much to them.That is my goal and my “why”! I want to impact these children’s lives in a positive way!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience happens every year right around the end of March and beginning of April when all my hard work pays off and the lightbulbs come on in the students. They go from unable to read full stories to reading independently, what seems like overnight. It is the most rewarding feeling and I find myself cheering and jumping out of my chair with joy when I see their pride and joy in their accomplishment!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would be able to take more professional developments that are on my wishlist, including some that are over summer that are out of state. I would be able to purchase some curriculum enhancing products my team and I have been wanting, such as secret stories to help our students learn sounds in a fun way. I would also love to purchase more teacher tees and earrings because the kids LOVE when I wear them!
