I love supporting my kids, seeing them grow and learn, and being a safe person for them.

Both of my sisters have Autism. In the late 90s/early 2000s, this was still uncharted territory for many schools. I saw how important caring and determined educators were to my sisters' development which made becoming a special education teacher a very personal endeavor. I wanted to be that person for children and their families that would care for them at school, push them to their full potential, and support them along the way throughout their child's education.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceThe 2023-24 school year was full of memorable teaching experiences, but one that stands out beyond the rest was getting a kindergarten student identified as having Autism & putting them on a plan for success. This child came to us having been kicked out of daycares and preschool due to his behaviors. I advocated hard, feeling strongly this child had needs that matched an Autism profile. Seeing his mother finally get an answer to years of questioning reminded me why I became a teacher.
What would you do with the $25,000?$25,000 would be life changing for anyone, but if I received this, I would put it towards the caregiving of my sisters. I anticipate one day being the caregiver for at least one, if not both of my sisters with Autism. Having this money to invest and put toward their care one day would change my life and theirs.
