Tell us why you became a teacher

I come from a line of teachers. I always had a feeling that being a teacher was my destiny. I used to play teacher as a little girl. I also used to help my mother with her tasks I.e. grading papers. I always felt comfort knowing I would one day be a teacher myself!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I was having an individual math group with one of my struggling students. We had spent day after day in this one math skill that she could not quite grasp. I pulled every trick out of my bag that I had. When we got to the last math trick I had, we were both frustrated, I told her to take a deep breath and clear her mind. When we did that we got a clear look on what we were doing and she finally understood the skill at hand! We hugged and smiled because the light bulb was finally lit!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would like to use the money in three ways, I would like to one put some aside to go toward my Master’s Degree, some would also go into my savings account to be put aside for a home, and lastly I would use the remaining to go towards a care closet/drawers for my classroom. I work in a poverty stricken area and they need certain necessities that they may not have the financial meanings to acquire these items. It means a lot to me that my students have the items they need no matter what!
