Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I enjoy being around kids. Starting in middle school, I was a junior counselor in a summer day camp. Working with various younger ages, I saw the fun and energy that the kids brought to my day. Though I would feel tired at the end of the day, I also felt very fulfilled. This experience helped me decide to study early childhood education in college. After completing my degree, I stepped into a teaching role as a first grade teacher and now as a Pre-K teacher. I love it!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience would have to be during my first year of teaching. It was year 2019-2020, the Covid school year. My school had gone virtual so I only saw my students via zoom. When Teacher Appreciation Week rolled around, my student’s parents put on a drive-by for me at my house. They lined up the street with their cars and each gave me a poster and gift. The best part was getting to see my students and their smile!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would use the money to help and support others. There are so many organizations that I would love to be able to support in a greater way like Operation Underground Railroad and Live Action. Also, I would consider investing in the daycare center I currently work at. I would want to update some toys for the children to play with. The money would be so helpful.
