Seven years ago my children were about to age out of day care and I was burned out at the job I'd been working. My neighbor taught the culinary class at the high school and mentioned that they needed a health science teacher. I had never really considered teaching, but the idea took hold and became more and more appealing. I realized with my background in nursing I could share valuable insights into "the real world" with these young men and women. I've never regretted my decision!

Three years ago one of my Jrs was getting into some trouble and was absent at least once a week. As the year went on I kept checking in and talking with her about the Sr year CNA program- you cannot be absent at all! During this time it came to light that her mother had cancer, dad was not in the picture, & she cared for her younger siblings. We had a serious heart to heart about her commitments and she promised she was serious about wanting her license. She's now a CNA!!!

Honestly the pay cut going from nursing to teaching has been a little difficult and I haven't been able to make some improvements on my house like I should. I need a new roof, new fence, and new front door- YIKES! My plan would be to be practical and complete one of those jobs, but also do something fun with a part of it and take a trip somewhere. You can never go wrong with a trip to Disney with the kids.
